Vehicle rolls over off I-91 in Middletown while fleeting from police: officials

A vehicle rolled over off Interstate 91 in Middletown on Monday morning as the driver was fleeing from police, according to officials.

The rollover happened on I-91 North just before 1:30 a.m. between exits 18 and 20 and the right shoulder is closed.

New Britain officials said the vehicle was involved in a disturbance in the area of Glen Street in New Britain and fled when officers arrived.

Police tried to stop the vehicle, but the driver got onto the highway and officers as well as state troopers pursued it, New Britain officials said. Then, they said, the driver lost control near exit 19 and went off the road.

The driver was taken into custody and a gun was found inside the vehicle, New Britain officials said.

The investigation is ongoing.
