Two injured in Bristol crash, driver charged with DUI

Two people were injured in a crash in Bristol early Monday morning and police have charged the driver with driving under the influence and additional charges.

Police said the driver, a 30-year-old Plymouth man, was heading north on Lake Avenue when he lost control on a curve near Middle Street, went off the road, into the parking lot of Terry Commons and hit an outbuilding that was hidden by the  thick vegetation.

The driver was able to get out of the car. Two passengers were injured and one had serious injuries, according to police.

The seriously injured passenger was taken to a hospital and had surgery, police said.

The other passenger was transported to an area hospital to be further evaluated.

The Bristol Police Department's Serious Traffic Accident Reconstruction Team responded to the scene.

The driver hasbeen charged with driving under the influence, assault second degree with a motor vehicle, failure to keep right on a curve, interfering with an officer and two counts of  assault on public safety.

He was held on a $150,000 cash/surety bond and appeared in New Britain Superior Court.

Middle Street and Lake Avenue were closed for several hours as police investigated and the roads reopened at 11 a.m.
