Arrest Made in Hartford's 16th Homicide; Victim ID Released

One person is dead and another has been arrested after a stabbing on Irving Street in Hartford Wednesday.

Police said they received multiple 911 calls reporting a person stabbed on Irving Street just before 3 p.m. The victim, 40-year-old Shedrack Bruff, was found in front of 87 Irving St and he was taken to St. Francis Hospital where he was pronounced dead, police said.

After reviewing surveillance footage, police said it appears the two people involved knew each other and that this was not a random attack.

Officers have arrested 38-year-old Robert Smith, of Hartford. He has been charged with murder and is being held on a $1 million bond.

This is the 16th homicide in the city this year.
