
Fire caused major damage at the Flagship Inn & Suites in Groton on Tuesday morning and police said firefighters found the main building on fire and propane tanks at the back of the building exploding.
An employee called 911 around 1:07 a.m. Tuesday and reported fire in the main office, then a resident near the hotel called to report a fire, police said.

Firefighters responded to 470 Gold Star Highway and police said officers helped evacuate guests and move them away from the fire.
Several fire departments helped put out the blaze and no injuries were reported from the fire.

Police said the main section of the Flagship Inn & Suites experienced major structural and smoke damage from the fire and was deemed uninhabitable.
They said two separate buildings of the hotel were not damaged.
The American Red Cross also responded to help displaced residents find temporary housing.

The Groton Police Department’s Fire Investigation Unit and the Poquonnock Bridge fire marshal are investigating the cause of the fire.
